Blake Lively doesn't often delve into personal matters, but she has now candidly opened up about her insecurities and body confidence after having kids.

The mum-of-three, who shares James, seven, Betty, two and Inez, five with husband Ryan Reynolds, told Forbes: 'I think having children for me made me feel so much more in my skin.'

She added: 'I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident.'

That said, she confessed to feeling insecure, too, saying: 'Not to say that there aren't a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled.’

The Gossip Girl alum discussed how her kids' feelings are imperative to her career choices.

'I just think that growing up, having kids, all of those things made me feel like I only want to do things where I can have really meaningful collaborations and have authorship,' she began.

'I want to be in films, I want to make films, I want to author films that I would be proud for my children to see.'

The 34-year-old, who's set to star in upcoming crime drama The Husband's Secret (about three women crumbling after one of them finds a secret letter written by her spouse) continued: 'Even the gowns I wear - I just want my kids to be proud.’

As well as heavily factoring in her kids to her career choices, Lively maintains that she knows who she is now and what she wants.

'I feel like I’ve evolved in that I know what I want and I know who I am more than I ever have,' she affirmed.

'I know that striving for quality and details and being a bit of perfectionist doesn’t make me difficult, it makes me good at what I do.

'I think that’s an important distinction, especially as a woman, because if you ever push back on anything, you tend to question "Am I being difficult or am I standing up for something that I believe in?"'

Elsewhere in the interview, Lively, who attended the 2022 Met Gala on May 2 in a dramatic custom Atelier Versace gown, inspired by famous New York City landmark the Statue of Liberty, spoke about the Gala's red carpet.

She enthused: 'Oh my gosh! It’s always sensory overload.

'Somebody said to me once, the Met Ball - it’s like Madame Tussauds, except all the people are real.'

She continued: 'I was like yeah, it actually is! So, that never gets old, that people watching. It is incredibly surreal.'

Upon arrival at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where this year's Met Gala theme was America: An Anthology of Fashion and the dress code 'Gilded Glamour', Lively sported an Atelier Versace dress with an oversized copper bow that fell into a floor-sweeping train.

But the detail soon changed from bronze to green to echo the oxidation of the famed Statue of Liberty building.

She accessorised with a Lorraine Schwartz crown and carried a Judith Leiber clutch that spelled out her kids' initials.

The Betty Buzz founder, who's first Met Gala appearance was in 2008, said of her appearance this year: 'I was so excited to go this year because of the dress that Versace made for me.

'That goes back to in everything I do and everything I touch - I get very involved in all of the details.

'Getting to work with these designers and these tailors and these seamstresses and embroiderers who are just at the top of their craft.

'Getting to meet them one-on-one when they come and they work on the dress, it is an extension of everything I love.’

Lively, who in 2020 voiced how 'obsessed' she is with her kids, previously admitted to sneaking out of the house to attend Michael Kors' AW22 show during New York Fashion Week.

At the time, she told E! News: 'This is his first night show ever, which is very exciting.

I could put my kids to bed and then secretly sneak out and go have a whole alternative life'.
