Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her eight-year-old daughter have been hospitalised almost a week after they tested positive for Covid-19.

The 46-year-old Indian actress, former Miss World and one of Bollywood's most famous faces, and daughter Aaradhya are being treated at Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital, ANI agency reports.

Aishwarya's actor husband Abhishek and Bollywood superstar father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, have been in hospital since Saturday. Their condition was described as "mild" at the time.

No further update on their condition has been released, but Amitabh tweeted on Friday: "In happy times, in times of illness, you our near and dear, our well wishers, our fans have ever given us unstinting love."

Prior to Aishwarya and Aaradhya's hospitalisation, Abhishek also tweeted: "My father and I remain in hospital till the doctors decide otherwise. Everyone please remain cautious and safe. Please follow all rules!"

On Friday, he posted the prayer emoji.

Actress Jaya Bachchan, wife of Amitabh Bachchan, has tested negative for the virus. Fans held prayers and vigils for the family's recovery following the news, which has shocked the country.

Until now, Aishwarya and Aaradhya had been isolating at home. It was reported last week that India recorded a record 35,000 new cases of coronavirus cases in 24 hours, surpassing the one million mark.

Aishwarya Bachchan won the Miss World Crown in 1994, and the star is a regular on the red carpet at the Cannes film festival. Her family are often described as Bollywood royalty.
