Bridgerton spoilers follow.

Bridgerton's highly-anticipated return is hours away, premiering today (March 25) on Netflix, and while fans are excited to delve into the dramas of Lord Anthony Bridgerton's love triangle, there is much more on the horizon.

Last year it was confirmed that not only are a third and fourth season of the hit period drama set to be produced, but also a prequel spin-off focused on the younger years of Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).

It will also follow the backstory of the quick-witted Lady Agatha Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and the well-meaning Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), charting the adventures they experienced in their youth that led them to the characters we see today.

Producer Shonda Rhimes is writing the origin story, something Andoh has said she is thrilled about.

"We're hoping it answers that delicious question that we all have when you meet someone, you kind of think: 'Who are they?' and 'How did they get to be this?'" Andoh told media. "So that's what Shonda thrillingly is going to be sharing with the world. There are no scripts yet, there's no shooting happening yet, but we know it's coming and we're all pretty excited."

Hinting that Violet's backstory from the ninth book in the series could be used as inspiration for her character's arc in the spin-off, Gemmell too admitted that the three stars are just as in the dark about the plot for the new series as fans.

"We don't know, we have no idea to date," she said. "I mean, I know as far as the bridges and books are concerned, there's a ninth book and in that there's some information about Violet's history.

"Whether or not she draws on any of that for Violet [I'm not sure] and the others I don't know either. We have nothing. We can't tell you anything, I'm really sorry."

Bridgerton season 1 is now available to watch on Netflix, while season 2 will premiere on March 25. Secret Cinema with Fever Present Bridgerton is open now in Wembley. To purchase tickets, head here.
