Calling all Bridgerton fans - a new Regency-era romantic period drama, which has been described as Bridgerton meets Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, is arriving this summer.

The film is adapted from the novel of the same title by Suzanne Allain and stars Freida Pinto, Zawe Ashton and Sope Dirisu. Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Emma Holly Jones, the love story follows our dashing titular suitor Mr. Malcolm, played by Gangs of London actor Sope, on the search for a bride who must fulfil all his prerequisites on his list.

Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida plays Selina Dalton, a woman who helps her friend Julia Thistlewaite (played by Zawe) get revenge on Malcom after he rejects her for falling short of his presumptuous requirements.

Director Jones revealed she saw Sope as "the new Mr. Darcy" upon meeting him, telling Vanity Fair: "I never wavered [when casting him as the lead]. It's him, or we don't make the film. It's the best decision I ever made. He's handsome, he's talented, he's gentle, he's complex."

Here's everything else we know about Mr Malcom's list below...

When is Mr Malcom's List released?

Mr Malcom's List: The plot

The story follows the charming and handsome Mr Jeremy Malcom, who is searching for a wife who must embody the ideal qualities on his list. When his presumptuous list is uncovered, Selina is invited to seek revenge on Malcom with her friend Julia, who has been spurned by him after falling short of his list. Selena sets out to play the part of Malcom's so-called 'perfect' wife, only to dash his hopes and reject him at the last minute. Well, that's their plan anyway....

The book's synopsis reads: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that an arrogant bachelor deserves his comeuppance...

"The Honourable, excessively handsome, excessively wealth and perhaps a tad egotistical, Mr Malcolm is searching for a wife - but not just any wife. He's armed himself with a list of ideal qualities that his future wife will have to embody. After years of searching, he's beginning to despair of ever finding this paragon . . . until Selina Dalton arrives in town.

"Selina, a vicar's daughter of limited means, is thrilled when her friend Julia invites her to London - until she learns it's part of a plot to exact revenge on Mr Malcolm, whose list has been discovered. Using the list, Selina is to play the part of his perfect woman, only to shatter his hopes at the most opportune moment.

"Given their instant attraction, Selina is initially reluctant, but when Mr Malcolm begins judging her against his unattainable standards, she decides that it's high time to bring him down a peg or three. For she has some qualifications of her own, and if he is to meet them, he must reveal the real man behind his carefully controlled facade..."
