Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have always been a notoriously private pair, but their whirlwind romance ~ and the pieces they do choose to share ~ still makes for one of the sweetest love stories in Hollywood. Here's the couple's relationship history and cutest moments over the years.
January 5, 2022: Benji and Cameron are celebrating their seventh wedding anniversary, and in a post dedicated to his wife typically private couple decided to let their emotions run wild. We're putty in their hands.
The post showed a piece of artwork, along with an adorable caption:
"Today 7 years married ❤️ Always dreamed of having a family like this. Happy, peaceful, consistent, loyal and unconditional equally filled with passion and depth. Calling it a Honeymoon doesn’t cover it. Real life. The only real challenge we have is making time go slower cause life goes by fast in the happy lane, Always and forever knowing we are home @camerondiaz Happy Anniversary I love you!❤️❤️❤️."

May 2014: Cameron and Benji already know each other, but formally meet at a dinner party Cameron hosts at her house. She had invited friends Nicole Richie and Joel Madden over and Joel asked if he could bring Benji along. "Joel said, 'Hey, can my brother come over?'" Cameron later recalled. "And I said, 'Of course, it's family, we're having a barbecue' and then [Benji] walked in the door and I was like … you! You!"
December 2014: Just six months later, in October, the pair spark rumours they're engaged after Cameron is spotted wearing what looks like an engagement ring. However, the couple don't confirm they're engaged until just before Christmas.
January 5, 2015: Less than 10 months after they start dating, Cameron and Benji get married in a ceremony held at their home in Beverly Hills in front of 100 guests, including Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lionel Richie, Judd Apatow and Drew Barrymore. Joel is Benji's best man.
"[Marriage] was the biggest thing I’ve done in my 40s, and it opened me up in different ways," Cameron later told Harper’s Bazaar of the special day. "It’s pretty awesome. I didn’t think it was something I’d do, and I don’t know if I’d have done it if I hadn’t met my husband. It was a surprise."
January 27, 2015: The pair look smitten at a basketball game in Los Angeles and, despite being intensely private about their relationship, they happily kiss in front of the cameras.
April 7, 2016: Cameron sits down with Andy Cohen for his Sirius XM Radio show and bigs up Benji for being an amazing partner. "Nothing matters now that I have my husband," she shared. "Like that's the thing, that's how I know he's my husband because no one compares."
She continued: "You realise like, 'Oh right, this is what the real thing is, this is what real love is and this is what commitment and devotion is.'"
June 13, 2017: Cameron describes them as "two peas in a pod" as she addressed the crowd at close friend Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop Summit. "I have a husband who is just my partner in life and in everything," she said. "[But] talk about two very different people! We are so different from one another, but we share the same values - we're totally two peas in a pod."
August 2017: Benji said he's the "luckiest guy alive" as he wishes Cameron happy birthday. "I don't think anyone could ever know the Depth, Kindness, and Compassion that I get to experience everyday thanks to My One and Only - You got me til the end baby."
April 16, 2018: Alongside a picture of them heading out in LA, Benji simply writes: "True love."
August 2018: Benji pays tribute to Cameron on her birthday with a cute post saying he's "grateful to be yours".
"Thank you for being the best friend and partner to me and taking this journey of Marriage," the Good Charlotte star wrote. "The way you live your life everyday, and your compassion for the world shines thru in your eyes and you inspire me to want to be the best man I can be in this lifetime."
January 3, 2020: The pair announce the birth of their baby daughter Raddix Madden. "We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family," they wrote on Instagram. They also said they wouldn't be posting any pictures of their little girl or won't be sharing any more details, but they did say she is "really, really cute". We bet.
April 24, 2020: Cameron gives a rare insight into their marriage during a chat with makeup artist and close friend Gucci Westman for YouTube series Makeup & Friends."I love being married," Cameron said. "The best thing that's ever happened to me is finding my husband, and our partnership, and our friendship."
She also opened up about motherhood, revealing: "I love being a mother. It's the best, best, best part of my life. I'm so grateful and so happy and it's the best thing ever and I'm so lucky to do it with Benj and we're having the best time. I'm thrilled. I can't believe it."
On Benji's parenting, she added, "He's such an amazing father. I'm so lucky he's my baby's father. He's incredible. He puts her down and I go into the kitchen and I pour myself a nice glass of red wine. I start my cooking, I put on my show, whatever it is."
May 10, 2020: To mark Mother's Day, Benji shared a rare tribute to his wife on Instagram. "Forever grateful to my wife for making me a Father, and taking such good care of us everyday. Best Mom and Wife and Friend," he wrote.
"Whether waking up extra early to take care of everyone (3 humans and a dozen animals) or doing all the research and reading to make sure we try our best to be good parents for our daughter, she’s a force of nature and I’m very grateful. 6 years together just get more meaningful and true love each day. What a blessing."
July 29, 2020: Cameron opened up about family life in a rare interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Promoting her new wine brand, she spoke about Benji, motherhood, and how she's been finding lockdown. The TV host asked what it's been like to spend "forced time away from the world", and Cameron said it's been a blessing.
"Before, my baby was an excuse to stay home, now I don't have to make that excuse," Cameron replied. "It's just what it is. I get to be with her."
She continued: "The best part of it for having to stay within our little bubble for this COVID situation is that her dad, my husband Benji, he gets to be home. He works from home. So he gets to be with her as much as I do - well, not as much because he's working all day long - but he actually gets to come out of a meeting and give her a kiss and play with her for a little bit, where if he was going to the office every day, he wouldn't have been able to do that."
"So we're just having a lot of gratitude for that," she added.
31 August 2021: Benji celebrated his wife's 49th birthday with a sweet Instagram post and a really lovely caption.
The 42-year-old wrote, "Happy Birthday to my Wife, you are beautiful in all ways, we are so lucky to have you ❤️🙏 what you do who you are day in and day out to the ones you love always true blue - hard to put it all in a IG post but I love to have a reason to say it out loud I love you ❤️🙏🎉 @camerondiaz."
Cameron's brother-in-law Joel Madden added in the comments, "❤️❤️❤️ the best @camerondiaz brightest loveliest light @camerondiaz."
28 September 2021: You'd be forgiven for thinking that since Cameron Diaz thinks her husband Benji Madden is hot, she must fancy his identical twin brother, Joel Madden, too. But, it turns out the similarities between the twins ends with their appearance, and Cameron only has eyes for Benji.
Speaking about the first time she met Benji on Anna Faris' podcast, Cameron revealed that it was Joel and his wife, Nicole Richie who introduced them. "I met mine [husband] through my now sister-in-law and brother-in-law, I met them first and then they didn’t set us up but we were in the same room because of them, and then we found each other," she said.
"I was like, 'How come I didn’t see him before?'" Cameron added, while fellow podcast guest Katherine Power replied, "Which is funny because you saw his twin brother."
Cameron then went on to explain why she finds Benji attractive, but not his identical twin. "They’re not the same, they’re so different," the 49-year-old said, "Even though they’re twins, they’re very, very different obviously."
She continued, "I saw him walking towards me and I was like, 'Huh, he’s hot, I haven’t seen him before,' but then when I saw him, like who he was, that’s what made me really be like, 'Oh you, you’re special, you’re the guy, you’re the hidden gem in my life'."
Hidden gem. How romantic!?
