Since moving to LA with her husband, Prince Harry and baby Archie, Meghan Markle has rarely been out of the press. However, for once, in an article for The New York Times, it was Meghan herself who took charge of the coverage, penning a vulnerable and visceral essay on suffering a miscarriage.

In it, the 39-year-old noted how, on one day in July, she had just changed the nappy of her one-year-old son, Archie, when she felt a ‘sharp cramp’.

‘I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second,' she wrote.

And though the resounding response to the essay was one of collective support and understanding, particularly from those who had previously suffered a miscarriage themselves, some were quick to criticise Meghan's essay.

But one social media user sparked a reaction they hadn't expected, when Chrissy Teigen —who suffered the loss of her third baby, Jack back in early October — decided to respond to them personally.

According to Just Jared, a user tweeted in response to Markle's news: 'Is anyone really questioning the pain and sheer awfulness of suffering a miscarriage, or are they perhaps criticising Meghan‘s decision to write a 1,000 word op-Ed about herself? [sic]'

The user added: 'What does it add to the resources already available for those who go through a tragedy like this? [sic]'

In response, a line from Teigen's now-deleted response, per the publication's reporting, reads: 'Congratulations, piece of s–t. [sic]'

After deleting her initial reaction, the mother-of-two added in a following tweet: 'Sorry forgot I’m trying to be nicer lol. [sic]'

Chrissy was subject to trolling after sharing photos of herself in hospital, cradling her still-born son, Jack – and she has been frank about how devastating the experience of losing Jack had been for her, husband John Legend and their entire family.

'I definitely give myself permission to feel complete and utter grief. Every day is so different, so when people ask me how I’m doing, I always say, "I’m okay, today",' Teigen told Good Morning America earlier this week.
