Dawn French heartbroken over Vicar of Dibley co-star Gary Waldhorn's death
Dawn French is heartbroken following the death of her The Vicar of Dibley co-star Gary Waldhorn.
Waldhorn, who was best known for playing Councillor David Horton in the BBC sitcom, "peacefully passed away" on Monday, his son Josh announced on Tuesday. He was 78.
Following the news, French took to social media to share a black-and-white photo of her co-star and simply added a heartbroken emoji as the caption.
In the comments, It's a Sin creator Russell T. Davies wrote, "So sorry for your loss. What a class act."
Actor Robert Lindsay also paid tribute on Twitter, writing, "And during all this madness news of dear #garywaldhorn passing... Such great memories of working with him and my wonderful pal Trevor Peacock at @rxtheatre."
Waldhorn played Horton alongside French as Rev. Geraldine Granger in every episode of the sitcom between 1994 and 2007 as well as some of the subsequent charity specials. He most recently appeared in 2020's The Vicar of Dibley in Lockdown specials.
His other TV credits include The Sweeney, Brush Strokes, Hotel Babylon and comedy sketch show French And Saunders. He was also an accomplished stage actor who performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
"We will all miss him terribly," Waldhorn's son Josh said in a statement. "Classically trained, it was the theatre where he truly flourished and he leaves a legacy of entertainment that saw him frequent the boards of Broadway, the West End and our living rooms on the telly. He leaves behind his two grandsons, Cooper and Bayley and his son Josh."
