HBO's latest true crime series, The Staircase has only just been released, but already people are *obsessed*. Which is no surprise given that the story was already explored in a hit Netflix documentary, and the cast is stunning. We're talking Toni Collette, Sophie Turner and Colin Firth, among others. Well, it's Colin Firth's performance as Michael Peterson that has got fans really talking, and they're all saying the same thing.

We had WeCrashed and The Dropout, and nowThe Staircase is the latest star-studded true crime drama lighting up your Whatsapp groups. The series explores the now infamous story of Michael Peterson, the novelist who was accused of murdering his wife Kathleen Peterson back in 2001, after she was found dead at the bottom of a staircase. The drama also follows how the story caught the attention of the public, with Netflix turning the case and trial into a docuseries back in 2018.

Not only does the series have the kind of cast dreams are made of, but the decision to cast Bridget Jones star Colin Firth as Michael Peterson has got fans talking, a lot, and they're all sharing the same reaction. Namely, that he is flawless in this role and this is a stroke of casting genius.
