Fans are all making the same joke about Zac Efron's new film role, and it's very relatable
Zac Efron's latest film role has got fans all making the same joke about the actor, and the relatable commentary is (painfully) spot on.
The High School Musical star might always be Troy Bolton in our hearts, but his new movie sees him turning his hand to horror, starring in new Stephen King adaptation Firestarter (out today, 13th May). The film tells the story of a young girl, Charlie, who has the supernatural power to create fire with her mind, while her parents fight to protect her from secret government agencies who want to harness her gift.
Zac, 34, plays Charlie's father, Andy McGee, in the sci-fi horror. And while the part marks a bit of a different direction for Zac, fans have been focusing on one thing: the fact that he's now officially taking on dad roles, and it's making everyone feel extremely old. See exhibit A:
Taking to Twitter, one fan retweeted stills from the film, writing, "we are OLD ladies, Zac Efron is playing a DAD." Meanwhile, another added, "Shout out to all the millennial women out there mentally spiraling over the fact that Zac Efron is playing a *dad*."
A third wrote, "Zac Efron playing a dad in an upcoming movie makes me feel so old, Troy Bolton please come back.

Others took to TikTok to share their reactions to the film, with TikToker Carly Luttrell telling viewers, "Did you guys know that Zac Efron is playing a dad in an upcoming movie?" adding, "WARNING: This information may be traumatic…" Agreed tbh.
For context, High School Musical first came out in September 2006 when Zac Efron was just 18. Fast forward 16 whole years and Zac is now 34, and it seems like 'dad' could officially be his new category of role.
Honestly, we're here for it.
