Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a festive edition of The Great British Sewing Bee. And this year was no exception, as four more celebrities battled to become the greatest sewers this Christmas on one of the country's favourite craft shows.

Fans were as delighted as ever to see their favourite judges and sewing extraordinaires Patrick Grant and Esme Young, as well as host Sara Pascoe, return to their screens on BBC One on Wednesday evening for more sewing fun.

The pair judged the Christmas craft efforts of this year’s contestants: Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe, EastEnders actor Natalie Cassidy, podcaster Rosie Ramsey and TV personality Penny Lancaster.

They were set three dressmaking tasks: to stitch up their twist on a traditional Christmas apron, to turn a Christmas sack-full of children’s hand-me-downs into an outfit for a baby, and finally to create a pop star-inspired fancy dress outfit to see in the New Year.

The stitchers’ outfits were paraded by catwalk models, with Johannes throwing his arms up with delight as his model strutted his stuff in the Strictly dancer’s Harry Styles-inspired New Year’s Eve outfit.

And the viewers loved it, with Ariadne Griffin sharing her joy at: “Johannes’s delight when his model went for it on the catwalk”.

Johannes wasn’t the only Christmas treat of a contestant – Sewing Bee fans loved the jokes, anecdotes and silliness of Natalie and Rosie. Heather Caton tweeted: “Rosie Ramsey and Natalie Cassidy are the TV duo I didn’t know I needed!”

Indeed, viewers were delighted as Patric and Esme joined in the fancy dress fun, strutting their stuff in the sewing room dressed as iconic pop duo Sonny & Cher.

Sibella Holland tweeted: “Patrick and Esme as Sonny and Cher was a Christmas treat I wasn’t expecting.”

But of course, there can only be one winner – and viewers were delighted that Johannes went home with the Christmas Sewing Bee trophy.

Hayley Brown shared her admiration, saying: “We need to adopt @jojo_radebe as a national treasure. He’s walking sunshine”.

Louise W was similarly delighted, tweeting: “Well done @jojo_radebe a well deserved #SewingBee win. Absolutely loved the Harry Styles catsuit & the model wearing it was fab-u-lous!!”

Maybe Johannes will be hanging up his dancing shoes and bring out his sewing machine in 2023.
