Ready for some nostalgia? It's official: Margot Robbie is coming to our screens as the most famous doll in the world, Barbie. Reports that the actress was working on the role first surfaced all the way back in 2018, and now the film finally has release date, trailer and album. Exciting!

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Barbie film, including the cast, release date, pictures, plot and more...

Is there a trailer for the Barbie film?

The full trailer for Barbie dropped on 25th May

On 4th April, fans were treated to their first proper look at the Barbie cast, as we joined Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Barbie Land, alongside a whole host of other Barbie and Kens. There are iconic outfits, incredible sets and more bubblegum pink than you can imagine. Margot really is the perfect Barbie, isn't she?

And our first teaser trailer came in last December, giving fans their first glimpse of Margot and Ryan in action as Barbie and Ken.

Who is on the Barbie soundtrack?

We knew that the one and only Dua Lipa would make a feature in the film, but now, the full line-up for the Barbie soundtrack is here and we can't cope.

Rolling Stone revealed on 25th May that 'BARBIE: THE ALBUM’ will feature Dua, Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, HAIM, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi.

Even Ryan Gosling is on the album! Seriously, 21st June can't come any sooner.

Are there any pictures from the Barbie film?

Boy are there! On 4th April, the official Barbie movie Instagram account shared a glimpse at the characters in action, and there is a lot to take in. Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa are just some of the Barbies and Kens starring. Scroll to see:

On 27th June 2022, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were photographed in character as Barbie and Ken, rollerskating down the boardwalk in Venice Beach, California. But Robbie has only recently revealed that she was "mortified" when the photos were leaked. The 32-year-old actress appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and was greeted by the host with the said photos.

"I can't tell you how mortified we were, by the way," she recalled. "We look like we're laughing, having fun, but we're dying on the inside. I was like 'this is the most humiliating moment of my life.'"

Fallon then asked Robbie if she thought that the snaps would go as viral as they did, to which she responded: "No. I knew once [we] were doing exteriors, [we're] gonna get tapped."

"We stand out a little bit in those outfits," she added, "so I knew there was going to be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did. It was mad."

We got our first glimpse of Margot in character as Barbie in early June 2022, and she looks *uncanny*. Warner Bros tweeted the snap alongside confirmation of the US cinema release date (21st July 2023, FYI). We can see Margot sitting in Barbie's iconic pink convertible car while sporting a (perfectly coordinated) blue outfit and blonde blowdry, and it literally feels like the doll herself has come to life.

We also got some brand new first look snaps of Ryan as Ken in the upcoming film, and of course, these pics caused a bit of a stir on Twitter.

Who has been cast in the Barbie film?

As we already know, Margot Robbie takes the lead as Barbie, and Ryan Gosling will play Ken. And it gets even more exciting, as a whole host of famous names are starring alongside them. They include Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu and Hari Nef, according to Variety, while Will Ferrell plays the CEO of a toy company.

Confirming her role in the film, Alexandra Shipp from Love, Simon posted a series of behind the scenes photos back in July with a sweet caption to Instagram. She wrote, "Thank you @barbie thank you #GretaGerwig for trusting me to portray one of your fabulous Barbies. Thank you everyone who made this experience possible 💖 I felt all the feels and love these humans so hard with all my strength! Thank you cast, thank you crew, thank you production without everyone this experience wouldn’t be possible thank you thank you THANK YOU!"

Sex Education's Emma Mackey also confirmed that she's joining the cast, following much speculation. The actress opened up about the project in an interview with Empire, telling the publication, "Right in the beginning, we had a sleepover for the Barbies, which would involve playing games with Scott [Evans] and Ncuti [Gatwa]."

Alongside confirming her appearance in the film, Emma's comments also verified a fan theory that there will be multiple versions of Barbie on screen. Exciting!

Emma also compared Barbie to her Emily Bronte biopic, saying, "It’s great to do comedy, because Emily was a sad, dark drama. Barbie is light and funny and silly and American and pink." Fans had previously pointed out how similar Emma and Margot Robbie look, so it's plausible that their resemblance could form part of the plot too.

Behind the camera, Greta Gerwig is directing (she's previously directed Lady Bird and Little Women), so we're expecting great things. What's more, Margot Robbie co-runs the production company behind the film, LuckyChap Entertainment, with her husband and best friend.

Other people in the cast include Dua Lipa, Ncuti Gatwa, Connor Swindells, Nicola Coughlan, Rita Aryu, Michael Cera, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Hari Nef, Anna Kruz Kayne, Scott Evans, Sharon Rooney, Emerald Fennell, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, America Ferreira, Ariana Greenblatt, Helen Mirren and Jamie Demetriou.

What have the cast said about the Barbie film?

Margot Robbie has just given a major update about what to expect in the Barbie film. Speaking to Carey Mulligan in an interview with Variety, Margot revealed the Barbie dream house will be featured in the movie. OMG!

She said: "The dream houses? You’ll see some dream houses. And it will be everything you ever dreamed of."

Actor Simu Liu has opened up about his "painful" preparation for the Barbie film, and it all sounds very intense. While the actor's role in the movie hasn't officially been confirmed just yet, he's rumoured to be playing a Ken doll (with fans speculating that the story could involve various version of Ken).

Speaking to The Independent, Simu revealed that he waxed his body for his Barbie role, marking a moment of particularly painful prep. He explained, "Waxing has been an education to say the least. It was one of the most painful experiences of my life."

Opening up about fan theories surrounding the film, he added, "Honestly, the discourse online is giving me life. With every casting announcement or bit of news, they’re like: 'What is this?' And that’s perfect – the less you know about it the better."

America Ferrera, who is also confirmed to be part of the cast, said the film is not like what we'd expect it to be in an interview with People.

"People don't have any idea what to expect [with the film], and I think that that's the right vibe," she explained. "Whatever you think it is, it's not that. It's something else."

What is the Barbie film about?

As for what will actually happen in the film, Margot Robbie has teased that it'll defy viewers' expectations. She told The Hollywood Reporter, "We like the things that feel a little left of centre. Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, 'Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,' but our goal is to be like, 'Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'"

We can't wait.
