Girls Aloud have announced that this week they will reunite at a charity gala to celebrate their bandmate Sarah Harding, who sadly died from cancer two years ago.

Singers Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy, Nadine Coyle, and Nicola Roberts, will fulfil their friend's dying wish to put on a charity event to raise funds for a study that will be done by Sarah’s oncologist.

Although the friends have arranged the charity gala and have invited some of their famous friends to perform, they will not actually be singing themselves as Kimberley told The Sun, “It doesn’t feel right without her.”

The mum-of-three added, “We miss her so much. It’s just so hard to get your head around it — to realise that she’s gone. Before Sarah died, we chatted to her and she told us she wanted us to raise as much money as we could for charity.”

The one-off special fundraising gala will be called The Primrose Ball in Sarah's honour and as a tribute to the band's hit single The Promise, which includes Sarah singing the lyrics: "Here I am, walking primrose".

The event will raise money for charities Cancer Research UK and the Christie NHS Foundation Trust and will take place at The Londoner hotel.

Girls Aloud said in a statement: "We are so grateful to The Londoner for hosting the Primrose Ball at their wonderful hotel."

As well as performances from fellow friends of the band Years & Years singer Olly Alexander, Sarah's St Trinian’s film co-star Ricky Wilson and pop icon Chrissie Hynde, there will also be a live charity auction.

The event comes after the Race for Life which Cheryl, Nadine and Nicola completed together in London's Hyde Park earlier this year.

After Sarah died in September 2021, Cheryl wrote a letter for Vogue UK where she said, “I would like to move forward by remembering Sarah before her illness. Although memories of that time do exist and are hard to shake, they hold no weight against the light she so brightly shone in the years beforehand.

'I have many, many more of those years to hold onto, and that is my intention. Her fun, bubbly side, her close-to-the-edge risky side, and her deeply soft and vulnerable side are some of the intricacies that made up Sarah in all of her glory.

'In the last few days spent with her, we got to laugh, cry, reminisce, cook, watch spiritual programmes (our shared love) and pray together. Those are the parts I will keep in my heart as I let the illness recede into the background.'
