Grace Jones and Burt Bacharach to play 2016 Love Supreme festival

Grace Jones and Burt Bacharach are among the headline acts announced today for the 2016 Love Supreme Festival taking place in Sussex in July.

The festival, which started 2013, is the UK’s only major greenfield jazz festival. Also appearing this year will be Dutch sensation Caro Emerald, Melody Gardot and Kelis.

Jones, the Jamaican-born singer and actress, is popular in the UK, where she had a hit in 1981 with the single Pull Up to the Bumper.

Other acts announced include soul singer Lianne La Havas, Kamasi Washington, Stanley Clarke, DJ Gilles Peterson, Cecile McLorin Salvant, The Stanley Clarke Band and Ibrahim Maalouf. Bacharach, 87, is one of the most significant songwriters of modern times and has won six Grammy awards and three Oscars.

The man who grew up listening to the jazz of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and Count Basie, said: "I'm thrilled to be returning to the UK this summer and performing at the Love Supreme Festival. I've heard great things about the festival and I'm looking forward to sharing my music in this beautiful setting with the stunning backdrop of Glynde Place."

In another treat for jazz fans, there is the newly-formed jazz band Scofield, Mehldau, Guiliana. The group, playing an exclusive UK gig for Love Supreme, features stars John Scofield, Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana (the drummer on David Bowie’s Blackstar).

Love Supreme will also shine a light on the diverse array of homegrown UK talent, including multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier, Mercury Prize-nominated trio GoGo Penguin, Average White Band, acclaimed vocalists Liane Carroll and Anthony Strong, Beats and Pieces Big Band, The Correspondents, Amy Winehouse collaborator Femi Temowo with Engines Orchestra, Native Dancer, Partikel’s String Theory Quartet, Trope, the genre-bending Swindle, and MOBO Award-winning duo Binker & Moses.

The festival takes place from July 1-3 in the idyllic surroundings of the Sussex Downs, just next to Glyndebourne Opera house. Tickets are on sale from 9am on February 11 from www.lovesupremefestival. Weekend tickets start at £110 and day tickets are £54.
