The Great British Bake Off has announced its star-studded line-up for the Christmas special.

The show will air the festive episode on Christmas Eve (December 24) at 8.25pm on Channel 4, as five celebrities go head-to-head to prove their baking chops.

They are Blackadder's Tony Robinson, The Big Breakfast's Gaby Roslin, broadcaster Terry Christian, Brookside's Claire Sweeney and Popworld icon Miquita Oliver.

Confirming her involvement, Gaby tweeted: "I have always loved @BritishBakeOff & watched it since day 1! And I have never ever baked a cake before, let alone followed a recipe! #GBBO."

"Thrilled to be part of @BritishBakeOff with these @Channel4 legends celebrating 40 years of Channel 4. It’s on Christmas Eve 8.25pm on 4.#GGBO," Claire added.

The news comes after the show confirmed its New Year's special line-up, with previous contestants Lottie Bedlow, Chigs Parmar, Manon Legrève and Antony Amourdoux all taking part.

In other Bake Off news, presenter Matt Lucas confirmed earlier this week that he will be exiting the show after three series.

"Farewell Bake Off," he tweeted. "It's been a delicious experience and I can't imagine a more fun way of spending my summers, but it's become clear to me I can't present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside my other projects."

After sending his "warmest thanks and gratitude" to fellow presenter Noel Fielding, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, and the crew, he added: "I wish whoever takes over all the very best and I can't wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won."

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix. Bake Off: An Extra Slice, hosted by Tom Allen and Jo Brand, airs on Fridays at 8pm on Channel 4.
