Hattie Morahan and Jemima Rooper to star in Orpheus Descending at the Menier Chocolate Factory

Hattie Morahan and Jemima Rooper are set to star in Tennessee Williams’s Orpheus Descending at the Menier Chocolate Factory this year.

The co-production with Theatr Clwyd will open at the Chocolate Factory on May 15, directed by Theatr Clwyd artistic director Tamara Harvey.

The play tells the story of a woman (Morahan) trapped in a loveless marriage, whose life is turned upside-down by the arrival of a charismatic drifter offering newfound passion and change.

The cast is completed by Catrin Aaron, Michael Geary, Valentine Hanson, Jenny Livsey, Laura Jane Matthewson, Mark Meadows, Ifan Meredith, Seth Numrich, Ian Porter, Carole Royal and Carrie Quinlan, with design by Jonathan Fensom, lighting by Tim Mascall, sound by Gregory Clarke and composition by Simon Slater.

The play was first performed in 1957 and adapted for film under the name The Fugitive Kind in 1959, starring Marlon Brando and Anna Magnani.

Orpheus Descending runs from May 15-July 6 at the Menier Chocolate Factory, menierchocolatefactory.com
