Hugh Grant has landed his next TV role in HBO's The Palace.

The limited series is set to follow "the unraveling of an authoritarian regime within the walls of a palace," according to Deadline.

Grant will appear in a guest starring role, joining previously announced cast members Kate Winslet (Mare of Easttown), Matthias Schoenaerts (Amsterdam), and Andrea Riseborough (Matilda the Musical).

Succession executive producer Will Tracy will serve as showrunner, while Stephen Frears directs and Winslet executive produces.

"We are honoured to be working with this incredibly talented group of filmmakers on The Palace," Francesca Orsi, HBO executive vice president of programming, said when the series was announced.

"The notion that Kate Winslet and Stephen Frears, two of our industry's leading lights (who – remarkably – have never collaborated before now), are joining forces to bring Will Tracy's wildly original, prescient, and dazzling scripts to life at HBO is a dream come true for us."

The Palace marks Winslet's fourth leading role in a HBO limited series. The actress won an Emmy and a Golden Globe award for her starring role in Mare of Easttown earlier this year, won an Emmy for her role in 2011's Mildred Pierce, and is set to star in upcoming series The Trust.

The Titanic star is also set to star in the upcoming Channel 4 drama I Am Ruth alongside her real-life daughter Mia Threapleton.

Winslet will play a concerned mother who struggles to help her teenage daughter Freya as she becomes increasingly consumed by social media.

"I can safely say with my hand on heart that I will never forget the things we learnt as we made this piece," Winslet said of the show in a statement.

"The low-key, quiet nature in which we put this together is how I aspire to work all the time. Often creative environments can be big and overwhelming, but part of Dominic's [Savage] directorial process is to keep things to a bare minimum and just focus on the actors and the world we are creating alongside him, and with his unwavering support. It was a privilege and an inspiration to work with Dominic Savage. He's simply extraordinary."

The Palace is yet to receive a release date. Mare of Easttown is available on HBO Max in the US, and Sky and NOW in the UK, while I Am Ruth premieres December 8 on Channel 4.
