Indiana Jones Should Be Played By A Woman, Says Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg is behind the idea that when Harrison Ford hangs up his whip, Indiana Jones should be played by a woman.
Speaking to The Sun, the legendary director revealed that he is "pretty sure" Indiana Jones 5 will be Ford's last adventure as Indy, adding that the franchise "will certainly continue after that" as talk turned to if the character could be played by a woman.
"We'd have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that," he outlined.
Spielberg met his wife Kate Capshaw when she starred in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and he counts her among his influences. "I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly – my mom and my wife," he enthused.
Last month, Spielberg confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 would start shooting in April 2019 and that it will shoot in the UK, like his current movie Ready Player One which was filmed in Birmingham.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Spielberg would shoot Indiana Jones 5 before moving on to his West Side Story remake.
We still don't know all that much about the movie, but Harrison Ford dropped a cryptic hint late last year that it would take into account the years since Crystal Skull and centre on an older Indiana Jones.
Indiana Jones 5 is expected to be released on 10 July, 2020.
