J.K. Simmons Is Working out with The Rock to Play a Shredded Santa

It's pretty common to see a Hollywood actor getting insanely shredded for a role these days. You're playing Captain America? You better bulk up. Got a role as the new Superman? Time to pack on size, etcetera, etcetera.

But there was one part we never imagined would require its actor to gain movie muscles. It seems we were wrong, because J.K. Simmons is bulking up to play St Nick, Kris Kringle, Santa Claus. Simmons is going to be the first (to our knowledge at least) Father Christmas that could pound you into the ground.

Images of the 67-year-old actor working out with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson were recently posted to social media. The stills show Simmons – decked out in festive red training gear and sporting a snowy white beard – being spotted by The Rock as he trains shoulders.

Simmons is set to star as a shredded Santa in a new festive comedy called Red One, which is scheduled to be released during the holiday season 2023.

The movie also stars Chris Evans (Knives Out), Nick Kroll (Big Mouth), Lucy Liu (Strange World) and Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and is being described as a "reimagining holiday mythology". It's expected to launch a whole new franchise.

That means we could be seeing a lot more of jacked J.K., not to mention some ripped reindeer, hench elves and a muscular Mrs Claus.
