James Van Der Beek and his wife Kimberly have opened up about their heartbreak of losing their sixth baby.

During Monday’s episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars’, the former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star shared the sad news that Kimberly had suffered a miscarriage over the weekend.

“My wife Kimberly and I went through every expecting parent’s worst nightmare. We lost the baby,” a clearly emotional Van Der Beek said in his video package.

“The little soul that we had expected to welcome into our family took a shortcut to whatever lies beyond.

“You never know why these things happen, that’s what I’ve been telling my kids. All you know is that it brings you closer together, it breaks you open, it opens up your heart, it deepens your appreciation. It makes you more human.”

The actor further discussed the tragic news on Instagram alongside a picture of his wife and daughter cuddling in a hospital bed.

“Wrecked. Devastated. In shock. That’s how we’re feeling right now after the soul we thought were going to welcome into our family in April…has taken a short cut to whatever lies beyond this life,” he wrote.

The star also hinted that the miscarriage had actually caused health problems for his wife.

“We’ve been through this before, but never this late in the pregnancy, and never accompanied by such a scary, horrific threat to @vanderkimberly and her well-being,” he explained.

“Grateful that she’s now recovering, but we’ve only just begun unpacking the layers of this one. Thank you to all of our friends and co-workers (and dance partners) who have shown up for us so beautifully during this time. As many of you have said, ‘There are no words…’ and it’s true. Which is why in a time like this it’s enough to know that you’re there. Grieving AND counting our blessings today,” wrote Van Der Beek.

As she continues to recover from the miscarriage, Kimberly Van Der Beek turned to Instagram Stories to reveal more about their sad loss.

“In 48 hours we lost our baby, boy, by the way, and I almost lost my life,” the mother-of-five revealed.

“At some point I can dig into the details with you guys about what happened in the emergency room,” the 37-year-old continued before thanking her followers for their love and support.

Since sharing their sad news, the couple have been praised by the public for helping to break down the silence that still surrounds miscarriage and baby loss.

“Thank you for sharing this with so many people, you don’t know what that means to those who have been through what you have been through. My love is always with you guys. I’m so sorry for your loss,” one Instagram user wrote.

“Thank you for giving a voice to this loss. It helps all of us who have been through it but felt unable to share,” another agreed.

“Prayers for your family during the extremely difficult time,” a third user commented. “I hope you have some peace knowing you inspired many people who have dealt with miscarriages through your compassion and love for your wife.”

James and Kimberly married in 2010 and are parents to Olivia, nine, Joshua, seven, Annabel, five, Emilia, three, and Gwendolyn, one.

Just last week, Hilaria Baldwin also revealed her heartbreak after suffering a miscarriage four months into her pregnancy.

The 35-year-old shared the tragic news in an Instagram post just hours after she went for a pregnancy scan.

Hilaria and her husband, Alec Baldwin, 61, have four children together and were expecting a baby girl.

The family’s devastation comes just seven months after Hilaria suffered another miscarriage.

The mum also believes talking openly about miscarriage can help remove the stigma surrounding the subject.

“In your comments, please be kind,” she ended her emotional post. “I’m feeling a bit fragile and I need support. I’m hoping, that by sharing this, I can contribute to raising awareness about this sensitive topic.”
