Bruce Springsteen has a new album due for release this year, according to Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner.

In a recent interview with Billboard to promote his new memoir, Like a Rolling Stone, Wenner appeared to let slip that The Boss will release his first new album since 2020’s Letter to You before the year is out. The comments came as the media magnate reflected on the changing nature of the music industry, and the consistency of his tastes over time.

“There’s a lot of good stuff, and there’s a lot of trash and trivial stuff,” said Wenner, when asked about his thoughts on modern pop and hip-hop. “Honestly, I don’t think it’s as good as [rock ’n’ roll]. I don’t think the singing is good, and I don’t think the arranging is good.”

“Historically, it’s another turn in the cycle, he continued. “Whether rock ‘n’ roll is going to come back – possibly not, because the sound is so different, and the circumstances are different. But I’m kind of stuck with the music I liked when I was young. Give me the Stones.”

Wenner then went on to apparently confirm that Springsteen will return with a 21st studio album in 2022. “There’s a new Bruce [Springsteen] record coming out this fall, which is stunning. I’m listening to that.”

Springsteen confirmed plans to tour the world extensively in 2023 with his E Street Band back in July, raising hopes for fresh material. The group’s extensive run across Europe next summer will see four shows in the UK, with stops in Edinburgh and Birmingham before a two-night stand in London’s Hyde Park as part of the British Summer Time festival. You can see the full details below.

Springsteen joined Wenner at a book launch event in New York City last night (September 13), although there are no reports as yet as to whether the talk yielded further album information.
