Netflix movie Leave the World Behind has debuted a first glimpse of the cast in character.

Headlined by Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali – it's an adaptation of Rumaan Alam's 2020 novel, which finds one family's Long Island vacation sinisterly interrupted by two strangers claiming there's been a blackout.

They must each decide on the best method to survive this crisis, while grappling with their place in a crumbling world.

Sam Esmail writes and directs, marking his big reunion with Roberts after previously whipping up Prime Video's gripping thriller Homecoming together back in 2018.

Kevin Bacon (The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special) and Myha'la Herrold (Bodies, Bodies, Bodies) co-star.

Leave the World Behind is part of a stacked final quarter for the streaming platform, which'll unleash Emily Blunt and Chris Evans' Pain Hustlers in late-October, David Fincher's return to criminal psychology with The Killer two weeks later, and Zack Snyder's Star Wars-esque blockbuster Rebel Moon a few days before Christmas.

Back in May of 2022, Roberts joked that her latest movie Ticket to Paradise was 'probably going to be terrible'.

'It is a romantic comedy. [George Clooney] plays my ex-husband,' she told Variety. 'I think it's so funny and George is so funny and George and I together, it's probably going to be terrible because there's too much potential for it to be great, it'll just implode on it itself.

'I think that should be the commercial for the movie: "It's probably going to be terrible." I'm so glad my publicist is on a plane right now.'

Leave the World Behind premieres December 8 on Netflix.
