Kaia Gerber's chic new fringe is one to take to the hairdressers
We're yet to meet someone who hasn't had - or wanted to have - a fringe at some point. And we usually turn to people in the public eye for our inspiration, from Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin in the Sixties and Seventies, to Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung in the Nineties and Noughties. Now we can add Kaia Gerber to our 2021 fringe mood board.
The model recently debuted a chic new haircut with a full fringe, and it sums up this season's beauty mood perfectly. The style, like an elevated shag cut, has a Seventies feel (a big trend right now), with its soft choppiness, and a fringe oozing an imperfect nonchalance a la French girls.
She joins Jodie Comer in the new fringe camp, who provides an alternative way of wearing the cut in the December issue of Bazaar. Her 'curtain fringe' skims the eyebrows and can be easily parted. Patrick Wilson, her hairstylist, gave us words of advice for those considering the French fringe, which apply whether you're inspired by Comer or Gerber.
“Remember, you can always go shorter; start off a bit longer and then take it up a bit after a while,” he says. The pro also advises against a bluntness. "It’s got to look soft and textured,” he explains.
And when it comes to styling your fringe, cheating some thickness (if you have fine hair) can prove more flattering.“Nobody likes a flat fringe; you want the style to have body which lasts throughout the day,” he says, recommending a product like the Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray, applied before blow-drying.
