Mare of Easttown star and all-round national treasure Kate Winslet is to star alongside her daughter Mia Threapleton in an upcoming Channel 4 drama.

The Academy Award-winning actress will lead an instalment of Dominic Savage's I Am anthology, with Kate and her daughter Mia starring in I Am Ruth.

The critically-acclaimed and female-led series aired its first trio of episodes in 2019, with Line of Duty's Vicky McClure, Samantha Morton and Gemma Chan each anchoring a story.

I Am later returned for a second season with Suranne Jones, Letitia Wright, and Lesley Manville in the spotlight, but now it's Kate's turn.

While Kate and Mia have been confirmed for the first feature-length episode of I Am's latest trilogy, the remaining cast has yet to be announced.

The series, created and directed by Dominic Savage, is semi-improvised, with the cast of each episode working with writers to develop the story. I Am explores the experience of women in moments that are "emotionally raw, thought-provoking, and personal".

"I have always admired Dominic's work and, in particular, his commitment to telling real stories," Winslet said in a statement. "British television is at an all-time high, and I feel excited and honoured to be part of this community, especially right now."

Dominic Savage is equally thrilled about the next chapter of I Am, admitting that it is "a complete honour" to be collaborating with Kate Winslet.

"Kate is such a legend, such an incredible and sublime acting talent, and I can't wait to start shooting this unique and important story that we have created together," he said.
