King Charles's coronation memorabilia: The most bizarre buys we've clapped eyes on

Memorabilia from Aldi and Etsy for King Charles's coronation

With King Charles III’s coronation just around the corner, it’s likely that you’re beginning to see more and more brands bring out coronation memorabilia.

While some are opting for classic printed dinnerware, flags and banners, others are taking a more unique approach, with the likes of Aldi turning its Kevin the Carrot mascot into “King Kevin” plush toys.

Marks and Spencer has jumped on the bandwagon too, selling coronation Colin the caterpillar cakes, and the coronation has extended to its clothing section as it’s just released a Union Jack fleece hooded blanket – for those who really like to stand out from the crowd.

If you’re feeling flush, you may even want to invest in a lithograph painted by the King himself – but you’d need to be willing to fork out a cool £2,950 for the pleasure.

We’ve collated some of our favourite bizarre coronation buys, below.

‘King Kevin’ plush toys from Aldi

"To celebrate the coronation, we’re pleased to release the official portrait of King Kevin," Aldi posted on its Facebook page this week. "Plush toys of his likeness are available in store now!"

The supermarket chain is now selling "King Kevin" plush toys in both a King and Queen version, said to represent King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The toys retail for £3.99 a piece, but have already seen some stores sell out since its launch on April 20.

"The demand for them has been extremely high," an Aldi spokesperson said on Facebook. "We are limiting purchases to two soft toys in store, per variant, per customer, so as many people as possible have a chance to buy them."

Each gnome retails at £7 each, but the red guardsman gnome is the only one currently available on the George website as the others have sold out.

Castle of Mey lithograph from Highgrove

The most bizarre thing about this piece of memorabilia is the price, but we guess that’s what you pay if you want a limited edition painting from the King himself.

Highgrove, the family residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, is selling just 100 Castle of Mey lithographs for £2,950 a piece.

Each lithograph was reproduced from the original watercolour painted by the King and is signed by His Majesty too.
