Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has published its first character details ahead of a European premiere this autumn.

Reuniting cinemagoers with Daniel Craig's detective Benoit Blanc, the Knives Out sequel boasts one hell of an ensemble: Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Jessica Henwick, Leslie Odom Jr and Madelyn Cline, with writer-director Rian Johnson back in business too.

Thanks to Empire Magazine, we now know that they'll be playing a bunch of old acquaintances, summoned to Greece for a murder-mystery game that spins out of control.

Norton is tech disruptor Miles Bron – employer of Odom Jr's scientist Lionel Toussaint.

"The species that [Miles] is derived from will be instantly recognisable to a lot of people in our era of tech billionaires," teased Johnson, while Odom Jr added: "I imagine that as complicated as these relationships are, these people have history, so what keeps them coming back together?

"I thought a lot about the original spark of what brought them together when they were younger. There must be something in it that is joyful. As fraught as we arrive on that island in Greece at the start of this film, that's now where we began. Love is complicated, friendships can be complicated."

Meanwhile, Hahn breathes life into Connecticut governor Claire Debella, who according to the filmmaker "is trying to thread the needle in many different ways, in terms of her public persona and what she's willing to compromise in order to stay in office."

Hudson's fashionista Birdie Jay brings her assistant Peg along to the gathering, played by Henwick, and Bautista's YouTuber Duke Cody is joined by younger girlfriend Whiskey - that's Outer Banks actress Cline.

And lastly, we have Monáe's tech entrepreneur Cassandra 'Andi' Brand.

Knives Out is available to rent or buy on DVD, Blu-ray or as a digital download – and its sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery hits Netflix on December 23.
