It’s been a busy few months for Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling, who tied the knot in 2020 and are expecting their first child in 2021.

However, the Irish TV presenter, 35, has revealed that things haven’t always been perfect between the newlyweds – but that they got over their last big fight with some unlikely help.

Speaking on Chris and Rosie Ramsey’s hit podcast, Sh**ged Married Annoyed, Whitmore revealed that the show had “saved our relationship”.

She explained that her last argument with her 32-year-old comedian husband – best known as the Love Island voiceover – took place during a long car journey with her dog Mick, and that the hosts had inadvertently come to the rescue.

Whitmore said: “I was driving last Christmas [2019] to Ireland because I've got a dog and the dog isn't allowed on the plane.

“It's eight hours to Holyhead and then there's a boat to Dublin and then three-and-a-half hours to where my mum is.

“So me and Iain were doing that drive and by the end of the drive, we thought, ‘I want to kill you, get out of the car.’

“We were listening to a lot of murder podcasts, so I said, 'Let's just throw on a little bit of Rosie and Chris - Sh**ged Married Annoyed,’ and you [Rosie and husband Chris] saved our relationship so I want to thank you right now.”

The BBC Radio 5 Live presenter added: “We had a lovely giggle. We needed that.”

Whitmore – who presented the South Africa edition of Love Island in early 2020 – met her other half at an ITV party in 2016.

The couple became secretly engaged on 1 January last year and wed in a small ceremony at Dublin’s City Hall in November.

Marking their first anniversary on Instagram on New Year’s Day, the presenter wrote: “A year ago Iain asked me to marry him and we had the most magical, perfect ceremony.”

In December, they revealed on Instagram that they were expecting their first child.

Sharing a picture of a Guns N’ Roses babygro, the mother-to-be wrote: “I’m gonna be honest it’s starting to look like my lockdown beer belly is out of control.

“Iain and I are expecting a baby early 2021. It’s been hard to keep such happy news quiet.

“Especially the times when I’ve had to run out of live radio to get sick in a bin or my penchant for a bowl of mashed potato in the morning. I wasn’t hungover like everyone thought.”
