Leona Lewis has opened up about being "severely ill" in her "challenging" first trimester of pregnancy in a heartfelt post aiming to help other mums-to-be.

The singer, 36, shared with fans that she was "unable to leave the house" due to her illness, promising more details soon.

Now able to get outside again, she is enjoying some time healing in nature with her husband Dennis Jauch, with whom she is expecting her first child.

Lewis posted a touching clip featuring her paddle-boarding with her baby bump on show, little pet pooch and husband near LA, accompanied by the song River by Leon Bridges.

The star wrote, "Spent time in nature with the pups and the bump this weekend. I had a really challenging first trimester, I'll share more at some point for anyone who is going through the same.

"But I was severely ill and unable to leave the house. So promised myself when I could get out I would spend more time in nature. She's truly healing."

Fellow mum Natasha Bedingfield wrote, "Love u. Had a pregnancy like that. So excited for you," with others sharing their own similar pregnancy experiences and offering their sympathies.

Lewis' Instagram stories show more footage of the couple's romantic road trip with four of their dogs in total accompanying them.

Lewis credited her look to fashion styling duo Dani and Emma, make-up artist to the stars Adam Burrell, hair stylist Preston Wada and photographer Rahul.

Jauch shared the same image to his Instagram, with the caption, "Biggest gift I could've asked for coming this Summer. You're one hot a** Mama."

Lewis shortly followed this with some more snaps from the shoot, writing, "Thank you for all the beautiful comments of love and support. My heart is so full right now!"

The Bleeding Love star, who won The X Factor in 2006, married Jauch in 2019 in a ceremony in Tuscany, having first met in 2010 when he was a dancer on her Labyrinth tour, with them dating soon after.

Lewis has previously discussed her desire to have children and her openness to adopting. "I do want children, but Dennis and I have spoken about adopting," she told The Telegraph's Stella magazine in 2020.

“My mum grew up in a children’s home. No one adopted her as a child and I would very much like to adopt.

“But I’m still figuring things out. If it was up to my husband, we would have had kids yesterday.”
