Liam Payne claimed he "didn't leave the house for three months" following the backlash over his controversial interview with Logan Paul.

The 'Strip That Down' hitmaker appeared on the 27-year-old star's podcast in June, where he caused a stir by claiming he would always "dislike" former bandmate Zayn Malik, declared having a child had "ruined" his relationship with Cheryl Tweedy, and insisted that One Direction were formed around him and he had outsold all their solo efforts with his own debut single.

And he's admitted the way fans "turned on" him led him down a dark path.

He wrote on his Instagram Story over the weekend: "It got quite dark for me for one point when you guys turned on me. I didn’t leave the house for 3 months.(sic)"

Liam admitted he had other issues going on at the time but he's glad to have turned a corner.

He continued: "You guys know I’m sorry about all that stuff I love my boys not sure what was going on with me other than I had a problem with me and I took it out on everyone else...

"Never had a bigger chip on my shoulder and I’m really glad to lose it.

"I’m hoping that you guys can forgive me in time because we’ve been through far to much but the jokes are funny keep em coming.(sic)"

The 29-year-old star then joked he was "waiting for the blame" if England lost their World Cup game against France.

And he added: "If England win I hope I also get the blame then I give you full license to block me… I’m joking please don’t block me."

England subsequently crashed out of the tournament after losing 2-1, with Harry Kane missing a second penalty which would have brought the score level.

During the interview, Liam declared having his son Bear in 2017 had "ruined" his relationship with Cheryl "for all the right reasons".

He said: "I like to talk to other new dads. You don’t know what is coming and it’s different.

"And to be honest with you, it ruined a relationship at that point but for all the right reasons. I was so excited for him to be born that I was actually worried if I wouldn’t love him enough."

And he admitted there are "many reasons" why he doesn't like Zayn.

He said: "There’s many reasons why I dislike Zayn and there’s many reasons why I’ll always, always be on his side.”
