Harry Potter actress Shirley Henderson is joining forces with Line of Duty star Craig Parkinson as the duo have signed up for a new Channel 5 drama series.

The broadcaster has confirmed the two stars will lead the cast of upcoming four-part drama The Winter Child.

Henderson is well known for playing Moaning Myrtle, the ghost of a young witch who attended Hogwarts, in the Harry Potter films.

However, movie lovers may also recognise her from Bridget Jones' Diary and Trainspotting.

The Winter Child will see Henderson play Claudia, a lonely single mother and school nurse longing for connection.

Meanwhile, Parkinson takes on the role of an English tutor named George.

However, Henderson and Parkinson aren't the only famous faces in the upcoming Channel 5 series.

Game of Thrones star Ian Lloyd Anderson and Silent Witness actress Lisa Dwyer will play the parents of missing child Emily Winter.

Sara Powell is also set to feature in the series as a supportive yet suspicious neighbour.

Viewers may recognise the actress from her roles in Doctor Who, Ghosts and Death in Paradise.

The drama is set to follow the life of Claudia as she tries her best to become a hero when a young child named Emily goes missing.

As the show unfolds, Claudia becomes embroiled in the case and fixated on uncovering the truth.

However, her fascination quickly turns to obsession, not only with Emily, but also with the Winter family at the centre of the mysterious case.

Commenting on the casting news, the show's creator Giula Sandler said: "It is a dream come true to have The Winter Child made with such passionate and creatively inspiring collaborators.

"Channel 5, Clapperboard and Chapter One have brought together a phenomenal cast and I'm so excited to see how they bring this world, and the twisted workings of our main character, Claudia, to life," she added.

Filming of The Winter Child is expected to begin on location in the coming months, but a release date for the series is yet to be announced.
