Look Who Just Replaced Meghan and Harry in Kensington Palace's Official Twitter Profile Photo

There are big changes happening in the world of royal social media!

Shortly after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry launched their official Instagram account, @sussexroyal, on Tuesday, the Kensington Palace Twitter and Instagram accounts changed their profiles to center around Kate Middleton and Prince William.

Both pages previously featured a profile photo of Meghan, Harry, Kate and William together at their first appearance as a foursome at the first annual Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018. Following today’s announcement of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new Instagram, the Kensington Royal profile images were changed to a photo of the Cambridge family. The casual snap, featuring Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, who turns 1 this month, was used as the family’s Christmas card this past year.

The Twitter bio and Instagram description have also been changed to read: “The official account of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Royal Foundation, based at Kensington Palace,” dropping Meghan and Harry’s titles.

Before Meghan and Harry tied the knot, the Kensington Palace social media pages featured an image of Prince William, Kate and Prince Harry at an event for the charity Heads Together in 2016. The three smile while wearing blue sweatbands on their heads.

The images and bios were changed after the royal wedding in May to include Meghan.

Kensington Palace’s announcement of Meghan and Harry’s new Instagram page also makes it clear that they’ll be focusing more on William and Kate going forward.

“Welcome to Instagram, @SussexRoyal!” they captioned a photo of the royal parents-to-be. “Follow @SussexRoyal for more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Follow @KensingtonRoyal for more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

The news comes amid the announcement that Harry and Meghan have split royal households from Kate and Prince William. The Sussexes and the Cambridges have broken up their joint “court” at Kensington Palace by creating two separate offices. Meghan and Harry’s office will also be moving out of Kensington Palace and into Buckingham Palace, where the Queen resides. However, Meghan and Harry will be living at their new home in Windsor later this spring when they move out of their Kensington Palace cottage.

Harry and Meghan’s own Instagram account is the first step in their transition to a new office – although no plans for an individual Twitter account have been announced. All the royal households share the same Facebook page.

Harry and Meghan will use the Instagram for both their work and their personal moments. (What better place to share new pictures of their royal baby!)

They captioned their very first post: “Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.” It was signed “Harry & Meghan.”

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, also shared a few of their favorite photos, which highlights their royal work. The nine photos include special moments from their royal tour to Australia last fall, Harry’s work with the military and his conservation efforts with elephants, Meghan’s bond with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen and her connection with the public. The photo gallery ends with a dramatic black-and-white shot of the couple from their tour Down Under as they wave to the crowd while holding hands.
