Marvel has unveiled a star-studded first trailer for its Secret Invasion series – you can see it below.

The confirmation of the new Disney+ show was one of the biggest announcements at the studio’s annual D23 Expo fan convention at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, which took place this past weekend (September 9-11).

The series has been on the cards as far back as 2019, when a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far from Home revealed that the versions of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) that had appeared in that film were in fact imposters, with shape-shifting Skrulls posing as the S.H.I.E.L.D. members; Ben Mendelsohn’s Captain Marvel character Talos had taken Fury’s place, whilst the real Fury was on a Skrull ship carrying out a secret mission.

Now, that reconnaissance trip is revealed to have been to monitor the secret invasion of the show’s title, and a new trailer reveals that Jackson, Smulders and Mendelsohn will be joined by an all-star lineup that includes top British talent like Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Martin Freeman, Carmen Ejogo and Kingsley Ben-Adir, as well as Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Dermot Mulroney and Don Cheadle.

Freeman reprises his role as CIA operative Everett K. Ross, a part he played in Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, while Cheadle is set for a ninth Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appearance as War Machine, a run that dates back to Iron Man 2 in 2010.

Set photos suggest Mulroney will portray U.S. President Ritson, while Ben-Adir is cast as a lead villain and Colman will play an old ally of Fury’s. Clarke, Ejogo, McDonald and Scott are in roles that are yet to be disclosed.

The show, which will consist of six episodes running between 40 and 50 minutes, was filmed in the UK, in London, Liverpool, Leeds, Huddersfield and Halifax. Shooting wrapped this past April; Secret Invasion is set to stream in early 2023. Jackson will appear again as Fury later in the year, when another MCU Phase Five project, The Marvels, reaches cinemas worldwide on July 23.
