Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are reflecting on 15 years of their luxury fashion line, The Row, opening up about their creative process like never before.

In a new, rare interview with i-D magazine, the twin sisters looked back at the origin of their beloved clothing brand and their decision to stay out of the public eye in order to focus on their joint business.

"We were raised to be discreet people," Mary-Kate said about why she and her sibling have become more elusive in recent years.

"I think that potentially that's just our aesthetic, our design preference," Ashley added, explaining that their personalities meld into their design work. "But that doesn't mean that we don't also appreciate something truly ornate or maximal. Sometimes a collection even starts quite like that, and then gets pared down. It doesn't always start from that simplistic place."

With the debut of The Row more than a decade ago, the sisters made the conscious decision to leave their famous monikers out of the line's branding for the sake of being taken seriously.

"We didn't want to be in front of it, we didn't necessarily even want to let people know it was us," Ashley said. "It was really about the product, to the point where we were like: Who could we get to front this so that we don't have to?"

Ultimately, the Olsens saw their brand and their foray into fashion as a way to perfect their design practice and exercise their creativity.

"We're hard workers and we've always been hard workers," Mary-Kate said. "I think the reason we do fashion is to constantly try to fix our imperfections. And you have next season to do that. But it's also our job to find every imperfection in there to make sure that we're constantly pushing ourselves and training our eyes and making sure everyone is served. Just evolving and learning."
