Melanie Brown has opened up about an "embarrassing" detail on the Victoria Beckham dress she wore to receive her MBE.

The singer, 47, was given the award by Prince William during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in May 2022.

However, the Spice Girl told the Live With Kelly And Ryan show that her outfit had a rather unfortunately placed split just as the royal went to pin her medal.

She said: "It was quite embarrassing, actually, because I didn't realise the medal goes here on your chest."

Brown added: "Victoria [Beckham] designed my dress for the occasion, and she put a big slit right there. I was like 'Oh, sorry!'"

She joked that her former bandmate had deliberately fashioned the frock that way.

Brown – who was being honoured for her work raising awareness of domestic abuse – teased: "Victoria knew. She knew!"

Beckham herself received an OBE from the Prince of Wales in 2017, and wore one of her own dresses for the occasion too.

After Brown received her award last year, she revealed on Instagram that she had then enjoyed a celebratory meal with her famous friend.

She also shared to hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that the prince's greeting was quite casual since she had "met" the royal before as part of the Spice Girls.

The mother-of-two said that she had enjoyed sandwiches with her bandmates as well as William and his brother Prince Harry when they were "very young".

She was part of the Spice Girls from 1994 until they went on hiatus in 2000, although the group has performed together since on various occasions.
