Will Mellor claims BBC aren't interested in Two Pints of Lager spin-off

Will Mellor has claimed BBC executives aren't interested in making a spin-off of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

Last year, Susan Nickson, the creator of the TV sitcom, revealed that she was in talks with the BBC about bringing the show back, with a focus on Mellor and Ralf Little's characters Gaz and Jonny.

However, in a new interview with the Daily Star, the former Hollyoaks actor revealed that BBC bosses have turned down their proposal for the reboot so they are looking for another broadcaster to take on the project.

"We've got the scripts - It's Called Two Pints: Last Orders. It's revamped. It's a spin-off about Gaz and Johnny, and it's really funny," he said. "It's been brought up to the modern day but Gaz and Johnny are still very old school and sit in the pub talking about pies and beer.

"Fans are going mad for it, so we've got the audience. The BBC said no, they don't want to revisit Two Pints. Now, we're going to look for someone else, whether it's another channel, whether it's Britbox or Netflix, because there's a massive audience for this."

The original show ran from 2001 to 2011 and also starred Sheridan Smith, Kathryn Drysdale, and Natalie Casey. It followed the lives of the five twentysomethings in their hometown of Runcorn.

In July, Nickson shared on the Drama School Dropout podcast that the BBC had agreed to make the spin-off but the development was slow.

"They are a corporation and, in a corporation, there are many cogs and those cogs move extremely slowly," she said, according to Mail Online. "So basically, what you've got, it's me, Will, Ralf and all three of us are just going, 'Yeah, we're here, we'll do it,' and the BBC are going, 'Ah brilliant, yeah let's do it', and I'm sort of sat here going, 'O.K., when?' and they do, 'Well, we don't know'. So, what we're got is a corporation that has no idea."
