Netflix is releasing a spin-off series about Wednesday Addams, the iconic character played by Christina Ricci in the 1991 film The Addams Family - a supernatural dark comedy based on cartoons of the same name from the 1960s. The series, titled Wednesday, will be directed by quirky horror genius Tim Burton and is set to star a whole host of Hollywood greats. Here's everything we know about Netflix's Wednesday Addams series.

What is Wednesday going to be about?

As the name suggest the eight-part series will focus on the scene stealing daughter of the Addams family, Wednesday.

It's described by Netflix as a "sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

Who has been cast in Wednesday?

Along with Tim Burton on side to direct the project, You star Jenna Ortega will play the lead role, with Chicago star Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia and Narcos' Luis Guzmán as Morticia's husband Gomez Addams.

Isaac Ordonez, who was in A Wrinkle in Time, will play Pugsley, Wednesday's brother who is obsessed with violence. Comedian and SNL cast member Fred Armisen will be playing Wednesday's Uncle Fester.

Gwendoline Christie also stars, after the Wednesday trailer revealed her as the head teacher, Larissa Weems, of Wednesday's new school.

Christina Ricci who originally played Wednesday in the 1991 film The Addams Family and the sequel in 1993, is also part of the cast. In the second Wednesday trailer it was revealed Christina would be playing a teacher at Wednesday's school called Miss Thornhill.

Do we have a trailer for Wednesday yet?

Yes! The first trailer dropped on 17th August, just hours after our first look at the new Addams family in character came along. In it, we see Wednesday (played by Jenna Ortega) attending a new mysterious and chaotic school (with Gwendoline Christie playing the head teacher no less) after being expelled from her last one for dropping piranhas in the water polo pool. A second trailer for Wednesday was released on 9th October and sees Wednesday arrive at her new school and met her new roommate. We also see Wednesday's growing suspicions about Nevermore Academy and are introduced to Christina Ricci's character Miss Thornhill.

When can we expect Wednesday to be released?

Netflix has confirmed Wednesday will be released on 23rd November later this year.
