As you'll no doubt remember from season 3, when we last checked in with You's Joe Goldberg he had 1) faked his own death, 2) murdered his lovable but homicidal wife and 3) blown up their idyllic suburban home. And after all that drama, he somehow managed to jump the Pond, where in the final episode he's seen to be enjoying a little bit of Parisian cafe culture...as if he hasn't just committed several major felonies.

This led fans to believe that season 4 would see Joe take on a new life in the city of lights and dedicate himself to tracking down season 3 love interest Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), who be believes has returned home to Paris. Newly released info has well and truly shattered this fan theory as it is revealed that Joe will be making another European city his home for the next series.

Yesterday (1 April) the official Instagram account for You shared a sneak BTS image of Penn Badgley sporting some serious facial hair, seated in a folding director's chair next to a pile of books and overlooking a white building that wouldn't look totally out of place in a scene of Bridgerton. The caption: "Joe’s back for a bloody good time. If his book choice tells us anything… our boy might not be in Paris anymore."

A quick zoom in on the book spines referenced shows works by Charles Dickens and William Thackeray, two classic English authors that book snob Joe would definitely try to mansplain to his Hinge matches on a first date, and which suggest that the series is based in London.

This teaser comes alongside a host of newly announced cast members. Alongside Penn Badgley, Tati Gabrielle will also return for another season and reprise her role as Marienne and previously announced newbies Call The Midwife's Charlotte Ritchie (who will play "smart, independent, suspicious" art gallery director Kate) and White Lotus's Lukas Gage (who will play rich party boy Adam) are still on the bill.

The recently revealed cast members include Tilly Keeper as socialite Lady Phoebe, Amy Leigh Hickman as troubled literature student Nadia, and Ed Speleers as author Rhys.

Not to disappoint, but it looks like the prospect of an Emily in Paris x You crossover is off the cards unless, of course, this was all an April Fool's joke?
