Olivia Newton-John dies

Grease star Olivia Newton-John has died at the age of 73.

The U.K.-born Australia-raised actress/singer's husband, John Easterling, issued a statement via Facebook announcing the sad news on Monday.

"Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends," the note began. "We ask that everyone please respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

Easterling did not share a cause of death. However, he indicated her passing was related to her battle with breast cancer.

Newton-John was first diagnosed with the disease in 1992, and while she recovered at the time, the breast cancer returned in 2017.

"Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer," the statement continued. "Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund."

Newton-John is survived by her 36-year-old daughter Chloe Lattanzi.

Over the course of her career, the superstar won four Grammy Awards and became recognised around the world for her appearance opposite John Travolta in the 1978 film Grease, in which they performed the hit duets, You're the One That I Want and Summer Nights.
