Olivia Rodrigo has divided fans by wearing a showstopping yet revealing dress to attend The Academy Museum Of Motion Pictures Opening Gala.

The 18-year-old singer wore a dress from YSL's Fall 2020 collection which featured a plunging detailed neckline and daring thigh split.

Teaming the dress with a pair of YSL Amber sandals in black patent leather, Rodrigo completed the look by keeping her hair and make-up simple with a low-key bun and statement red lips.

But then really it was all about that dress, which commanded all the attention, and sparked something of a debate on social media.

While many commented that the Driving License star looked knock-out in the killer number, others believed the teenager was a little too young for the risqué outfit.

"This dress was made for Olivia Rodrigo," one tweet read.

"Olivia Rodrigo looks perfect in red lipstick and black dress," another agreed.

However, others believed the plunging neckline of the dress made it a little too daring for someone of her age.

"Don't get me wrong but she's kinda young for this ysl dress? Idk I don't see her grown enough to wear this but maybe it's just me," one user commented on Twitter.

"That dress. Yikes. Talk to your handlers, Olivia," another agreed.

The discussion about whether the dress was too grown up for Rodrigo prompted many to step in and argue that women should be able to wear what they choose, no matter their age.

"Olivia rodrigo: *dressing for herself and being comfortable & confident in what she wears*," one user wrote. "twitter: “i think she’s too young to be wearing that” “hollywood is sexualizing her” “she shouldn’t dress like that cause men will sexualize her.”

While another shared a post containing Billie Eilish song lyrics about being judged for the clothes she chooses to wear, "If I wear what is comfortable I am not a woman, if I shed the layers I am a slut."

"People calling Olivia Rodrigo out for her dress is exactly what Billie Eilish meant here," the user added in her tweet.

Rodrigo isn't the only person to face questions from the Internet about not dressing her age.

Back in 2019 Millie Bobby Brown hit back at trolls who shamed her for what they considered dressing inappropriately.

The Stranger Things actress, who was 14 at the time, received an onslaught of responses from social media commenters after she posted a photo of herself on Instagram in a form-fitting, snakeskin-print dress with neon yellow accents.

The mature outfit proved to be too much for some of Brown’s Instagram followers, who were quick to attack with comments claiming the actress is growing up way too fast.

But Brown wasn’t about to let followers bring her down, however. In an Instagram story, she quickly fought back, writing, “ik everyone on my last pic wants me to “act my age” but quite frankly its my instagram and if I choose to post that picture and you don’t like it… scroll past it).”

No doubt Rodrigo might be having some similar thoughts right now.
