The One Show presenter Alex Jones has said that she "ruined" Strictly Come Dancing for her mum.

It was a Strictly-studded sofa on the The One Show last night (July 12), as hosts and former contestants Alex Jones and Harry Judd were joined by Sunetra Sarker and former Strictly pro Oti Mabuse.

But while Sarker shared that her dance teacher mother was very supportive of her when she appeared on the 2014 series of Strictly, Jones revealed that it was a slightly different story with her mum.

Judd, who won the glitter ball back in 2011, asked Jones: "It's lovely to hear how supportive your mum was because Al, your mum wasn't quite so supportive was she?"

Jones replied: "Well. I think it was the semi-finals and she said, 'Now I have to say, you are ruining this for me this year because I'm so stressed'. She normally loves Strictly and my year… not so much."

Jones competed on series nine alongside Judd, reaching the semi-finals and placing fifth overall with her professional dance partner James Jordan.

Mabuse announced earlier this year that she would not be returning to Strictly following seven years as a pro dancer on the show, to focus on other projects including her other TV commitments to The Masked Dancer and Dancing on Ice.

"Never easy to say goodbye," she wrote on Instagram at the time. "I have been part of the most amazing TV show, Strictly Come Dancing for the past seven years and it has been an incredible time.

"Lifting the glitter ball twice and having the best journey with all my celebrities, but also meeting and working with the best team, crew, producers, celebs and incredible professional dancers!

"I'm honestly so grateful to The BBC and will always remember that Strictly and BBC brought me to the UK – which I now call home and I have learnt and grown so much," she added. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
