Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly having house drama with another royal
Prince William and Kate Middleton may have found themselves in Princess Eugenie's bad books after nabbing a property she had her eyes on. It's no secret that the Cambridges have been planning a move to Windsor – to be closer to the Queen, who now lives there permanently – for quite some time, and it seems they've finally found the perfect home, albeit one that cousin Eugenie was hoping to move into herself: Adelaide Cottage.
According to the Daily Mail, Prince Andrew (who lives in the nearby Royal Lodge) had made plans for his daughter Eugenie to move into Adelaide Cottage. Currently, she lives in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's former home – Frogmore Cottage – with her husband, Jack Brooksbank and their one-year-old son, August.
Speaking to the publication, sources close to Andrew and Eugenie said they had been "trying to secure Adelaide Cottage for a while for when she moves out of Frogmore" adding that "before Andrew’s most recent scandal, it was definitely a property he was [also] trying to secure for his daughter."
Although it's not clear whether the 32-year-old royal is still interested in Adelaide Cottage, the Daily Mail points out that "there is no doubt" that the Cambridge family would have the first pick.
Earlier this month, a Royal Family insider told The Sun that the property seems to be top of Prince William and Kate's list when it comes to potential family homes. "Finding a way to make Adelaide Cottage work seems to be the best and only option," the source said. "There are issues with all the other houses, so Adelaide will be the favourite."
Adelaide Cottage is owned by the Queen, but has been a "grace and favour" property since 1941 – that means, fellow royals or staff members are offered residence there rent-free (not a bad perk, if you ask us!) – and was once home to Princess Margaret's partner, Captain Peter Townsend in the 1940s and 50s.
Last year, a royal insider revealed to the Mail on Sunday that the couple had been "eyeing up" properties in Windsor where they would spend the majority of their time and commute to London when needed. Speaking about the potential move, the source said: "Anmer Hall made sense while William was a helicopter pilot in East Anglia and it was useful for Christmases at Sandringham but it doesn’t really work any more. It’s a little too far away for weekends but Windsor is a perfect compromise."
