Big congratulations are in order for Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, as they've welcomed their first child into the world together – a baby girl. The happy news was shared in a special statement by Buckingham Palace, which said that the little one was born late on Saturday night after Beatrice was taken into Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on Friday.

Both mother and baby are doing well, and the baby came in weighing 6lb 2oz. As yet, her name has not been shared publicly.

"The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care," a BP spokesperson shared.

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf [Edoardo's son from a previous relationship]."

Beatrice and Edo's newborn is the Queen's 12th great-grandchild, the fourth of which to be born this year. The baby will also be eleventh in line to the throne. The couple married last July in a small, COVID-friendly wedding, after postponing their original nuptials in May. The micro-wedding took place at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Princess Beatrice and Edo's baby will be given a royal title, unlike Beatrice's sister Princess Eugenie's son, August, but this is due to Edo being descended from Italian nobility, rather than because of Beatrice's heritage.

Essentially, royal titles pass down through the male line, so because Eugenie's husband, Jack Brooksbank, doesn't have one, neither does their son. However, Beatrice's husband, Edo, is an Italian count, meaning that their daughter is a nobile donna (Italian for 'noble woman').

After their wedding, Beatrice herself also inherited a new title and is now an Italian countess, as well as a British princess.

Edo’s father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, spoke with the Daily Mail about their family’s lineage, saying, "Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna."

He also added that Beatrice and Edo are "very suited to each other" and that "I’ve never seen him so happy," which of course is beyond adorable.

Princess Beatrice and Edo's pregnancy news was initially shared with the world in a statement on the official Royal Family social media channels. In full, it reads: "👶 Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news."

Congratulations to the new parents!
