Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have moved into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to retain the Grade II listed residence for when they visit the UK, but will share it with Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank, who married in 2018.

The couple, who are expecting their first child, reportedly moved into the property in October.

The arrangement followed a discussion between the Sussexes and the royal family.

“Frogmore Cottage continues to be The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s residence in the UK and they are delighted to be able to open up their home to Princess Eugenie and Jack as they start their own family,” a source close to the couple told The Independent.

The property underwent major work to turn five properties back into a single home for the duke and duchess and their baby son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, with all fittings and fixtures privately paid for by the couple.

Meghan and Harry quit as senior working royals in March, repaying the £2.4m of taxpayers’ money spent on the cottage, which was a present from the Queen.

Since stepping down from their roles, the couple have established a new charitable organisation Archewell, replacing their Sussex Royal Foundation which has been formally wound up.

Meanwhile, Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank announced they were expecting their first child in September, a few weeks before their second wedding anniversary.

Eugenie confirmed the news with a post on her personal Instagram account, writing: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021...” alongside a picture of a small pair of fluffy teddy bear slippers.

The baby will be the ninth great-grandchild for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, following the arrival Archie.

But, even though Eugenie is a princess, because Mr Brooksbank has no title the child will be born down a female line of the royal family, meaning they will be referred to as Master or Miss Brooksbank.

They will not be an HRH nor hold a title, unless the Queen decides to intervene and give Mr Brooksbank – who is European brand manager for Casamigos Tequila co-founded by George Clooney – an earldom or issue a Letters Patent amending the rules.

Eugenie's parents, Andrew and Sarah, will become grandparents for the first time and the baby boy or girl will be born 11th in line to the throne.
