Rebecca Ferguson to 'conclude' music career with upcoming album
Rebecca Ferguson has announced she will be "concluding" her music career with her next album.
The 35-year-old singer, who found fame on The X Factor in 2010, marked the tenth anniversary of her debut album Heaven earlier this week and revealed that her next release, a sequel to Heaven, will be her last.
"10 years today I released my first album Heaven... A young woman telling her story through songs, this album took me around the world and changed my life! I am grateful to all of the people involved! We created a classic album that is still listened to today," she tweeted. "I look forward to concluding my career with my next album a follow on from this album (Heaven pt 2)... I am grateful for the career I have had in music, I've achieved all that I ever wanted to achieve in music I'm now excited for my next chapter."
Ferguson finished in second place behind Matt Cardle on The X Factor. After releasing Heaven in 2011, she went on to release three further albums - Freedom, Lady Sings the Blues, and 2016's Superwoman. Her fifth and final album will be released next year.
Earlier this year, she met with politicians to discuss the treatment and welfare of musicians and demand they take action against the "bullying" she claims is rife in the music industry. She also recently took part in a demonstration in London's Parliament Square to call for artists to be fairly paid for streams of their music.
She has explained that she intends to focus on this work once she retires from music.
"My final album will drop next year and will be a combination of songs I have written over the past 10 years," she stated, reports the Daily Star. "After my retirement, I will dedicate my time and energy into helping and nurturing emerging artists and fighting for better treatment."
