Jazz legend Al Jarreau dies at 76

Celebrated US jazz singer Al Jarreau has died at the age of 76. The seven-time Grammy winner was recently admitted to hospital in Los Angeles suffering from exhaustion. That forced him to quit touring after more than 50 years on the road, forcing the cancellation of his remaining tour dates for 2017. Jarreau delighted audiences with his brand of jazz, pop, funk and Rhythm and Blues. Paying tribute on Twitter, soul singer Chaka Khan said: “U were EVERYTHING Jazz & beyond with an unrivaled improvisational genius.” Rest in power, AlJarreau. U were EVERYTHING Jazz & beyond with an unrivaled improvisational genius. Love & prayers 2 his family & fans. pic.twitter.com/XylxkaAILe— Chaka Khan (ChakaKhan) 12 février 2017 No cause of death was given for Jarreau who will be remembered for hits including “We’re in This Love Together” and the theme song to the hit 1980’s TV series “Moonlighting.” A post on his Facebook page on Friday said he had been “recovering slowly and steadily”. “His son reports that he caught his dad singing ‘Moonlighting’ to one of the nurses the morning … a very encouraging sign,” the post said. But a statement said that Jarreau passed away on Sunday morning in hospital, “kept comfortable by his wife, son, and a few of his family and friends”. Jarreau died hours before Sunday’s Grammy awards, the biggest night of the year for the music industry. with Reuters
