The age rules for contestants on The X Factor have been called into question after judge Gary Barlow reportedly said one 16-year-old was "too young" to cope with the pressure. Viewers saw teenager Luke Lucas become upset after struggling with his performance in front of Barlow and his Take That bandmate Robbie Williams during the judges' houses stage. Other 16-year-olds remain in the competition, however, including Janet Devlin and Amelia Lily.

Janet Devlin has been tipped as "the one to beat" after getting through to the next stage of the X Factor. The teenage singer, from Northern Ireland, won over the judges and an audience of 5,000 at Wembley Arena with her version of Aerosmith's I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. Among the other girls who made it through and will be mentored by Kelly Rowland was Jade Richards.

'X Factor' Judge Gary Barlow Listens To His Boss Simon Cowell
Take That star Gary Barlow admitted he had been taking advice from X Factor supremo Simon Cowell before stepping into his shoes on the show. Viewers will get their first look at Barlow and fellow debutants Kelly Rowland and Tulisa Contostavlos tonight as they join show veteran Louis Walsh on the panel. The trio replaced Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Cowell, who is busy with his US version of the show.
