From horned pooches to sailor pugs, Key West pets and owners pulled out all the stops when it came to the “unicorns and uniforms” themed masquerade, part of a 10-day "event marking the bicentennial of the islands.Tributes to the late singer Jimmy Buffet featured throughout the day, as well as group dance numbers and skits across four categories which included a junior round and a pet/owner look alike segment.While competition was fierce between acts such as the 13-year old newfoundland dressed as Smokey the Bear, and pet/owner duo Effie & Chiquita who dressed as Carmen Mirandas, it was pugs Samson and Delilah, and their owners Michelle and Robert who won the best in show prize with their greek heroes and “Trojan pugicorns” costume.The fur-filled annual festival also raised funds for a local animal charity, the Lower Keys Friends of Animals.According to a press statement, Fantasy Fest continues through Sunday, October 29, with highlights including a masquerade march in Key West’s historic district and a flamboyant nighttime parade Saturday, October 28, featuring “lavish motorized floats and elaborately costumed marching groups.” Credit: Florida Keys News Bureau via Storyful
