'Straight Outta Compton' star O'Shea Jackson Jr. is a scene stealer in his new movie
O'Shea Jackson Jr. is best known for being the son of Ice Cube. Since playing his father in the hit N.W.A. biopic "Straight Outta Compton" in 2015, the rising star has been keeping a low profile. In the movie, in which Aubrey Plaza plays Ingrid — a social media stalker who is obsessed with an Instagram star (played by Elizabeth Olsen) — Jackson Jr. plays Dan Pinto, Ingrid's landlord and eventual love interest.

Why Hollywood's hip-hop stories are fatally flawed
As hip-hop approaches middle age, it is becoming more attractive to Hollywood, which is making a miniature industry out of telling its stories. Last month saw the release of All Eyez On Me, a thin retelling of Tupac Shakur’s life and death, and this weekend in the US, HBO premiered The Defiant Ones, a look at the financially fruitful relationship between the record producers Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine.

WGN America's New Drama 'Underground' Tackles Slavery With Surprisingly Modern Flourishes
The first shot we get of WGN America's new show Underground is of a world turned upside down. Then the camera rights itself, and for the next 78 seconds, a riveting—and wordless—opening announces the show's intentions. How 17 Prominent Hollywood Figures Have Responded to Lack of Diversity at Oscars
There are 20 actors nominated for the four major Academy Awards acting categories, and all are white. The same was true last year. Creed, which stars Michael B. Jordan and was directed by Ryan Coogler, was nominated, but only for Sylvester Stallone's performance. Straight Outta Compton was nominated, but only for its screenplay, which was written by white men. Beast of No Nation, the critically acclaimed Netflix film starring Idris Elba, received no nominations.
