10 Sci-Fi Movies To See In 2015

It’s 2015 and if you’re a ‘Back To The Future’ fan, that means it’s the year of Hoverboards, flying cars and ‘Jaws 19’. And thankfully, it’s also the year of some highly-anticipated sci-fi movies. So if science-fiction is your thing, then you’re definitely in luck, as 2015 has some incredible films heading your way…

Jurassic World

The highly-anticipated ‘Jurassic Park’ sequel, Colin Trevorrow’s ‘Jurassic World’ returns to Isla Nublar twenty-two years after the original film. But while John Hammond’s original idea for a fully-functioning dinosaur theme park has come to life, the declining interest causes the park’s executives to come up with something bigger, badder and deadlier…

Z for Zachariah

It’s the big screen adaptation of Roberto C. O’Brien’s classic sci-fi novel… and with Margot Robbie, Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the starring roles, ‘Z for Zachariah’ is set to be a claustrophobic tale of the end of the world. In the wake a global catastrophe, three survivors find themselves thrust into a love triangle. And as the last known survivors, there are no rules in love or war…

The Martian

Based on a novel by Andy Weir, the upcoming Ridley Scott movie ‘The Martian’ follows American astronaut Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon) as he becomes stranded on the surface of Mars. Struggling for survival and forced to improvise from his former crew’s lab on Mars, Watney becomes the focus of an elaborate rescue mission. But can they get to him in time?

Ex-Machina

An upcoming sci-fi thriller starring ‘Star Wars actors Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson, ‘Ex-Machina’ is already pushing all the right buttons. A young computer programmer has been chosen to participate in some breakthrough Artificial Intelligence experiments… but it soon becomes clear that all is not as it seems and he is forced to interact with the world’s first fully-functioning A.I.

Pixels

It’s the film we’ve been waiting for since the ‘80s – ‘Pixels’ follows a group of videogame players drafted by the American government after an alien threat manifests itself as a hoard of classic videogame characters. Starring Adam Sandler and Peter Dinklage, it’s every video game player’s dream. And while it’s clearly based on an episode of ‘Futurama’ it promises a hefty dose of sci-fi comedy goodness.

Jupiter Ascending

The Wachowski’s are back… and ‘Jupiter Ascending’ offers a grand, sci-fi vision of the future as Jupiter Jones (played by Mila Kunis) becomes the sole heir of the entire planet Earth… and is forced to fight for its survival. Starring Channing Tatum as Jupiter’s guard, this ambitious space opera explores the idea of life on Earth originating from another planet. And what might happen if they want their planet back.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Tom Hardy stars in the role he was born to play – as Mad Max Rockatansky, also known as The Road Warrior as he fights for peace in a dystopian vision of Australia. The first ‘Mad Max’ film in thirty years, it takes us back to the franchise’s roots, with Tom Hardy facing off against a whole host of ravenous scavengers – including Nicholas Hoult as Nux. Rumoured to take place in one giant chase sequence, this film is one to look out for.

Terminator Genisys

If you loved the original ‘Terminator’ movies, well… we’re not sure how you’ll feel about this. ‘Terminator Genisys’ thrusts the franchise into new territory as Kyle Reese (played by Jai Courtney) finds himself in a new timeline that may or may not tear giant chunks out of the original films. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as an ageing T-800, it looks as though the time-travelling antics have taken a new twist. But will it save the faltering franchise?

Chappie

It’s the ‘Short Circuit’ for a new generation - Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Chappie’ follows the story of a young A.I. robot finding his place in the world. Rejected as faulty and adapted in order to think and feel for himself, Chappie is a unique robot in a world that’s policed by mechanical men. But when a local gang kidnap him, it’s not long before they attempt to use him for their own nefarious plans… but can he be stopped before it’s too late?

Star Wars VII

It’s the most anticipated film of 2015… and has to top our list of must-see sci-fi. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ takes us back to the galaxy far, far away and after thirty years, it looks as though things are a little different. Starring Daisy Ridley and John Boyega as well as some of our favourite original trilogy actors, J.J. Abrams brings us the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ saga. And with a whole new lightsaber and some awesome new characters, it’s going to be the must-see film of the year.
