Al Pacino Reveals Marvel Talks

It looks as though screen legend Al Pacino might just appear in a comic book movie after confirming he’s been in talks with Marvel Studios.

During an interview with Happy Sad Confused Podcast, the 74-year-old legendary actor admitted that he’s already spoken to the studio. And it seems he might be inclined to take them up on an offer.

“I’ve met with the Marvel guy,” he said about studio boss Kevin Feige. “It’s a Marvel how things happen [Laughs].”

Of course, Pacino steers clear of giving away too many details, but from his comments it certainly looks as though he’s open to a comic book role. And I can’t help thinking that Marvel would love to have him on board.

“I would imagine that either there’s something he feels is right for me,” he added. “And if I feel…”

Unfortunately, Pacino cuts himself off before he says too much. And after joking that he’s receiving a phone call from Feige telling him t keep his mouth shut, it looks as though that’s all we’ll be getting from him. At least, for the time being.

But has Marvel already got a role in mind for Mr Pacino?

After the recent casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, I can’t help wondering whether Pacino has been approached for the role of Baron Mordo – a powerful sorcerer who becomes the arch-nemesis of Doctor Strange.

Throughout the comic books, Strange and Mordo have a long history of battling one another and Mordo has even bargained with his soul in order to gain more power. Of course, this is something that Pacino is already familiar with after his role in ‘The Devil’s Advocate’. But could the boot be on the other foot this time around?

Either way, it’s encouraging to see an actor of Pacino’s calibre considering a comic book role. And I can’t help thinking that this shows quite how far the industry has come.

Will Al Pacino appear in an upcoming Marvel movie? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. After all, just because there’s been talks, that doesn’t mean he’s signed on the dotted line. But I still have a good feeling about this.

‘Doctor Strange’ heads to cinemas on 4 November 2016.
