Amityville: The Awakening Delayed For Reshoots?

Upcoming horror movie ‘Amityville: the Awakening’ may have had its release date delayed because the studio want to shoot a new ending, a report has claimed.

The latest instalment in the long-running haunted house horror series – and the first to be produced by modern horror hitmakers Blumhouse – was originally lined up to hit cinemas in January 2015.

However, studio TWC-Dimension abruptly pulled the film from their release schedule indefinitely last week, giving no explanation for this move.

Now, an anonymous source has told Bloody Disgusting that the film from director Franck Khalfoun (‘Maniac’) has gone on hold over plans to shoot a new ending.

The source claims that ‘Amityville: the Awakening’ has had two test screenings to date, and enjoyed an “overwhelmingly positive” response – but it seems the conclusion left test audiences unsatisfied, prompting TWC to order reshoots.

This delay also leaves extra time for special effects work, which had reportedly been “falling behind” – and the provisional plan, we’re told, is for the movie to now be released mid-to-late summer 2015.

However, the reshoots have reportedly proved difficult to schedule thus far, as ‘Amityville: the Awakening’ actor Cameron Monaghan is occupied shooting the new season of ‘Shameless’ (the US version).

Co-stars include Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kurtwood Smith.

‘Amityville: the Awakening’ will be the twelfth film made in the series, which began with 1979’s ‘The Amityville Horror.’ However, few of the films are directly related beyond the basic set-up. The enduring appeal of the series owes much to the iconic house setting, and the story’s basis in real-life events.

This Blumhouse production will arrive roughly a decade after Michael Bay’s production house Platinum Dunes made a reboot of their own, with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George.
